Driving Automation in Metal Forming

At the inaugural edition of MF India, GMT Engineers Pvt Ltd sees an opportunity to showcase how its machine range has evolved—from fiber lasers to fully automatic panel benders—while strengthening relationships with MSMEs, Tier-1, and Tier-2 manufacturers responding to increasing precision requirements.

Chennai has been GMT’s home base since 1988, with the company serving the automotive and aerospace supply chain for decades. At MF India 2026, the company will showcase its latest metal forming technologies, including the BC Series Fully Automatic Panel Bender, highlighting how automation can improve precision, productivity, and manufacturing efficiency.

“MF India lets MSMEs see automation options like our panel bender firsthand and understand the ROI case directly from our engineers, not just a catalogue,” says BS Prasad, Managing Director, GMT Engineers Pvt Ltd.

Improving Productivity Through Automation

The highlight of GMT’s exhibit is the BC Series Fully Automatic Panel Bender, developed to address the challenges faced by growing fabrication shops as production volumes increase.

According to Prasad, fabricators often reach a stage where adding more press brakes only increases floor space requirements and dependence on skilled operators. The BC Series addresses this by delivering the output of multiple press brakes from a single, fully automated machine. It manages the complete bending sequence—from sheet positioning to final forming—without manual intervention, delivering 0.01 mm repeatability on every bend, even for complex multi-bend enclosures and structural automotive panels.

With rising material costs placing greater emphasis on efficient production, GMT’s BC Series is designed to eliminate operator variability by automating the entire bending process.

“A dedicated metal forming show is overdue for South India. MF India lets MSMEs see automation options like our panel bender firsthand and understand the ROI case directly from our engineers, not just a catalogue.”

Every bend is executed as a fully automatic, repeatable cycle with 0.01 mm accuracy, ensuring consistent quality from the first panel to the millionth. This helps eliminate scrap caused by human inconsistency while maintaining high-volume output.

The automated process also addresses the shortage of skilled labour by enabling a single operator to oversee multiple machines rather than requiring one skilled operator for each press brake. As a result, quality is built into the process rather than depending on operator experience.

“Quality no longer depends on operator experience; it’s built into the automated cycle itself, which is exactly what shops facing a shrinking skilled labour pool need,” notes Prasad.

Accelerating Automation Adoption

GMT believes the inaugural edition of MF India will provide a dedicated platform for manufacturers to explore modern metal forming technologies and better understand their business benefits.

The company expects the exhibition to help MSMEs evaluate automation solutions firsthand, interact directly with its engineering team, and accelerate the adoption of automated forming technologies across South India’s manufacturing ecosystem.

“A dedicated metal forming show is overdue for South India. MF India lets MSMEs see automation options like our panel bender firsthand and understand the ROI case directly from our engineers, not just a catalogue,” concludes Prasad.
